  It’s a great place as far as how old and how much history it has in there. But if you want to eat there I found it impossible. I asked for a menu they say they don’t have one. And the waitress kept on walking. Everyone around us were eating. I get that they might not have a menu, but I think he should offer to say what options they have at least. So we went in for a snack and had only teas.

  Leopold Hawelka (egy cseh cipészcsalád egyszerű gyermeke) 1939-ben a Dorotheergasse 6. szám alatt megnyitotta kávézóját. Saját kávékeveréket készített három arabicafajtából, megtanulta a bécsi pörkölési módot, különleges darálót vásárolt. Hitelezett, ha kellett, a felesége maga sütötte a házi buktát. Rendszeres látogatói közé tartozott Friedensreich Hundertwasser festő, építész, André Heller író, Ernst Fuchs képzőművész, Heimito von Doderer író és Helmut Qualtinger színész, humorista. Megfordult ott sok külföldi híresség is, így Andy Warhol festő, Arthur Miller drámaíró és Elias Canetti Nobel-díjas író is. A falakon ma is láthatók azok a rajzok, festmények, kéziratok, amelyeket Hawelka úr az akkor még viszonylag ismeretlen művészektől kapott. A kávézó kopottas berendezésével, márványasztalaival a hagyományos osztrák kávéház megtestesítője. Leopold Hawelka hetven éven át, szinte életének utolsó pillanatáig minden nap bejárt a kávéházba. 100 évesen, 2011 decemberében halt meg - az üzletet unokái viszik tovább.

  Sade bir ortam ama ince detay ve möble atmosferi tamamlıyor. Sıcak içecekler ve yerel tatlılar çok güzel, servis çok iyi, garsonlar çok ilgili. Gnaben gezisinde mola veya kahve arası için mutkaka uğranmalı. Zaman zaman yoğun olabiliyor. Tarihi önemi çok büyük özellikle Savaş sonrası Viyana için...

  Paid €15 for an espresso, tea and apple strudel with vanilla sauce. Without service charge. You have to order a drink before anything else. Apple strudel was really good. Took 20mins as warned by the waiter, but it was freshly baked with good balance of sweetness and vanilla sauce. They mentioned they normally serve apple strudel without vanilla sauce; for a small cost, do request for it. ;) Attentive waiters, spoke perfect English.

  If I would have to chose two coffee houses you cannot miss in Vienna, I would go for Hawelka and Central. Both totally different but both great ways to breath in the amazing Vienna atmosphere. The Hawelka cafe is always busy and it seems that the waiters never stop looking after a mixture of local and international guests. Most of them speak well English and they will love to help you choose. I suggest Vienna coffee and warm apple pie with whipped cream.
